GCB Bank Named Official Collecting Bank for Ghana Sports Fund
GCB Bank PLC has been named the designated collecting bank for the newly established Ghana Sports Fund, marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen financial support for sports development across the country.
The Ghana Sports Fund, created under Act 1159, is designed to mobilise and manage sustainable financing for the growth of sports nationwide. The Fund will support the construction and maintenance of sports infrastructure, athlete development and welfare, grassroots programmes, and Ghana’s participation in regional and international competitions.
The announcement was made during a courtesy call by representatives of GCB Bank on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, at the Ministry’s offices in Accra on 27 January 2026.
In welcoming the partnership, Minister Kofi Iddie Adams expressed confidence in GCB Bank’s capacity to help operationalise the Fund and ensure transparent, efficient collections. He described the collaboration as critical to boosting the financial foundation of Ghanaian sport.
GCB Bank, one of Ghana’s leading financial institutions with a wide branch network and modern digital platforms, will leverage its systems to facilitate easy and accountable contributions to the Fund. The bank has a track record of handling key public sector collections and will apply this experience to support the Fund’s rollout.
Officials from GCB Bank reaffirmed their commitment to the partnership, emphasising their role in helping grow and sustain the Ghana Sports Fund through effective collection mechanisms and ongoing support for the sports sector.
