Ghana Announces Emergency Evacuation of Citizens from Qatar Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Government of the Republic of Ghana has announced an emergency evacuation exercise for its citizens living in Qatar following what officials describe as a “heightened security situation” in the region.

In a statement referencing an earlier notice issued on March 6, 2026, authorities said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Ghanaians abroad.

According to a follow-up notice dated March 15, 2026, the Embassy of Ghana in Qatar has directed all Ghanaians who wish to return home to urgently reconfirm their interest. Affected individuals are required to submit the biodata pages of their passports via email no later than Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Officials emphasized that the evacuation is strictly a one-way arrangement from Qatar to Ghana and is intended for citizens seeking immediate repatriation due to the evolving security environment.

Authorities urged all concerned citizens to respond promptly within the stipulated deadline to facilitate planning and coordination of the evacuation process.

The government has not yet disclosed the number of Ghanaians expected to be repatriated or the specific timeline for the operation, but officials say further details will be communicated as arrangements progress.

The move highlights Ghana’s efforts to safeguard its nationals overseas during periods of instability and uncertainty.
