Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has opened up about the difficulties that come with mentoring other people’s children, describing the experience as more challenging than many may assume.
In a post shared on social media, the singer expressed frustration over what she suggested was excessive parental interference, questioning the complications that arise when guidance and mentorship are not clearly understood by all parties involved. Her comment, which included the phrase “What’s all this?”, sparked conversations online about boundaries in celebrity mentorship.
Wendy Shay has been publicly associated with young talents Tracy Shay and Korkor Shay, both of whom have appeared with her at events and performances. Her relationship with Tracy Shay, in particular, gained public attention after a video of the young girl dancing to one of Wendy Shay’s songs went viral at a school programme.
Following the viral moment, Wendy Shay visited Tracy’s school and announced her decision to sponsor the child’s education from upper primary through to tertiary level, stressing the importance of education over fame. The gesture was widely praised as an effort to secure the child’s future while nurturing her talent responsibly.
However, the singer’s recent remarks suggest that mentoring minors comes with complexities, especially when expectations between mentors and parents are not aligned.
