Energy expert Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has raised concerns about Ghana’s economic situation, arguing that everyday experiences of citizens do not align with government assurances of improvement.

He noted that despite official statements suggesting economic recovery under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), trading activities in many markets remain sluggish, with households still grappling with rising living costs.

According to him, statistical figures alone do not reflect the real struggles of ordinary Ghanaians, especially when it comes to the prices of essential goods.

Mr Poku questioned the relevance of inflation percentages being cited by authorities, stressing that the cost of food and basic necessities continues to strain household budgets.

He added that expectations surrounding the government’s widely promoted “reset agenda” have yet to translate into meaningful relief for consumers, particularly in local markets.

The energy expert urged policymakers to focus more on the lived realities of citizens rather than relying solely on macroeconomic indicators to measure progress.
