The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has appealed to the party’s presidential aspirants to exercise restraint and discipline as the NPP prepares to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026.

Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony involving the aspirants, Mr. Kodua stressed that the internal contest should not be viewed as a confrontation but rather as a democratic process to determine the level of support each candidate commands within the party.

“This contest is not a war. It is only to show whether you have the support of the party or not. When you win, you still need the support of your brothers to carry on and win the election in 2028,” he stated.

The NPP General Secretary further warned against any actions that could undermine the credibility or peaceful nature of the primaries. He indicated that security agencies will be on high alert to ensure law and order throughout the process.

Mr. Kodua cautioned both party members and non-members against attempts to disrupt the election, noting that any individual who seeks to foment trouble will be dealt with by law enforcement.

“I want to use this medium to send a strong caution to any person in our party or outside our party who has any intention of discrediting or trying to mar the beauty of our democracy, come January 31. Be careful, because on that day the IGP and his men will apprehend anybody who tries to cause chaos,” he warned.

The remarks form part of the party’s broader efforts to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent primary, as the NPP positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
