NDC Majority Caucus Backs Call for Cancellation of Ayawaso East Primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament has thrown its weight behind calls for the cancellation of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries, following allegations of widespread vote-buying and voter inducement during the exercise.
The position, which represents the collective decision of NDC Members of Parliament within the Majority Caucus, was formally communicated through a statement issued on behalf of the caucus by its leadership. The MPs expressed grave concern over reports emerging from the primaries held on February 7, 2026, describing the alleged conduct as damaging to the party’s integrity and internal democratic values.
According to the caucus, while internal elections are a core part of party democracy, the credibility of such processes must be protected at all times. The MPs warned that failure to act decisively on the Ayawaso East matter could undermine public confidence in the party’s commitment to reform and ethical leadership.
The Majority Caucus therefore called on the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC to annul the results of the primaries and conduct a fresh contest, should investigations confirm breaches of the party’s electoral guidelines. They also urged that any candidate found culpable of vote-buying or inducement be sanctioned, including possible disqualification from any rerun.
The Ayawaso East primaries have already triggered intense debate within the party, prompting the NDC leadership to commence internal investigations into the allegations.
