Details have emerged from a family source on how a domestic dispute involving former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, allegedly escalated into a violent stabbing that led to his arrest in the United States.

The account was given by David Gyapanin, uncle of the victim, Gilda Nortey, who narrated how a marital disagreement over a possible divorce turned into a near-fatal incident.

According to Mr. Gyapanin, tensions between the couple intensified after his niece indicated that she might seek a divorce if ongoing challenges in the marriage persisted. He said the comment reportedly enraged Mr. Nortey, who allegedly threatened to either kill his wife or take his own life should she attempt to leave the marriage.

Mr. Gyapanin explained that moments after the threat, Mr. Nortey allegedly rushed to the kitchen, causing the victim to retreat into a bedroom and lock herself inside. However, he claimed that Mr. Nortey forced his way into the room and stabbed his wife three times.

Despite sustaining serious injuries, the victim reportedly pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. According to her uncle, Mr. Nortey agreed, but only after demanding that she promise not to disclose his role in the attack.

In a desperate effort to survive, the victim reportedly agreed. While preparing to leave the house, she realised she still had her car keys in her pocket and seized the opportunity to escape. Mr. Gyapanin said his niece ran into her vehicle, locked herself inside, and drove off, even as Mr. Nortey allegedly chased her with a knife.

Bleeding heavily and in severe pain, she managed to drive herself to the hospital where she works as a nurse. She was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she remained as of Sunday, Mr. Gyapanin disclosed.

Meanwhile, police in the United States have confirmed the arrest of Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, 41, in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, along Mayfair Drive in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

Lower Paxton Township Police said the victim was transported to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition. Mr. Nortey is facing charges including attempted homicide, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
