The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has granted self-recognisance bail to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, after subjecting him to hours of questioning.

The interrogation forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged vote-buying during the party’s parliamentary primary conducted on February 7.

Speaking on the matter, Baba Jamal’s lawyer, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, confirmed that his client honoured an invitation from the OSP and fully cooperated with investigators. According to him, the questions centered on claims that delegates may have been induced during the internal party contest.

The allegations emerged shortly after the primaries, triggering public discussion and concerns within political circles. The OSP subsequently stepped in to assess whether any electoral or anti-corruption laws may have been violated.

While details of the interrogation have not been officially disclosed, the legal team maintains that Baba Jamal has denied any involvement in vote inducement and is confident that the investigation will vindicate him.

The anti-corruption agency has indicated that its probe remains active, and further developments are expected as inquiries continue.

Baba Jamal, a former Member of Parliament, is once again seeking to represent the Ayawaso East constituency in the upcoming general elections. The unfolding investigation adds another layer of attention to a constituency that has frequently been in the national spotlight during election periods.

For now, the matter remains under review as authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the claims.
