Tamale: Police arrest 28-year-old with 98 parcels of suspected cannabis

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 28-year-old man in Tamale in connection with the possession of 98 parcels of suspected cannabis.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Alhassan, was arrested by the Police Special Operations Team on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at about 12:30 pm at Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
According to a police statement signed by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the arrest followed a distress call from the Tamale Taskforce, which had intercepted the narcotic substances during an operation in the area.
The police said the exhibits comprised 98 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. An initial suspect, identified only as Hashim, was apprehended with the exhibits and, during interrogation, implicated Mohammed Alhassan.

Based on the information gathered, police arrested Alhassan and handed him over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) to assist with ongoing investigations.
The statement added that Hashim is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
Police say Mohammed Alhassan is expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, December 29, 2025, to face charges relating to the possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes and urged the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information.
