The former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming flagbearer primaries could produce an unexpected outcome, with Dr Bryan Acheampong emerging as a surprise contender.

Speaking on the internal contest within the governing party, Appiah-Kubi said that although several well-known figures are competing for the slot, the Minister for Food and Agriculture should not be underestimated.

According to him, political momentum within the party is shifting, and Acheampong’s growing influence, resources, and grassroots engagement could significantly alter the dynamics of the race.

Appiah-Kubi noted that while frontrunners such as former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other high-profile aspirants continue to command attention, the primaries may defy expectations once delegates cast their ballots.

He added that internal party contests often take unexpected turns, stressing that Bryan Acheampong’s appeal among certain party structures could give him a competitive edge when it matters most.

The NPP is preparing to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections, with the primaries expected to be fiercely contested as aspirants intensify their campaigns nationwide.
