Minority Calls for Greater Voice as Parliament Returns

Ahead of Parliament’s resumption, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged the Majority to allow more space for opposition voices in debates. He noted that the previous session saw several Minority motions blocked, limiting their input, and called for a more inclusive approach to strengthen legislative quality and democratic practice.

Minority Calls for Greater Voice as Parliament Returns

As Parliament prepares to resume sittings on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Minority has urged the Majority to create more space for opposition input in legislative discussions.

Speaking at a media briefing, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin highlighted that much of the previous session left the Minority frustrated, with several motions and proposals rejected before they could be debated. He said this limited the Minority’s ability to meaningfully contribute to shaping legislation.

“Parliament thrives when all voices are heard,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said. “We hope that in this session, the Minority will have more opportunities to present ideas and engage constructively in debates that affect the nation.”

He stressed that inclusive debate strengthens democracy and improves the quality of laws passed, calling on the Majority to foster a collaborative atmosphere where all sides can participate actively.

The Minority Leader’s appeal underscores a broader call for Parliament to be a platform for dialogue and consensus, rather than a one-sided forum, as legislators face pressing national issues in the new session.
