The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has ordered a full-scale audit of all public health facilities in the Oti Region, signaling a renewed push to improve healthcare standards, infrastructure safety, and service delivery.

The directive mandates the Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Korku Awoonor, to establish a technical working group tasked with conducting a detailed assessment of health facilities across the region. The evaluation will focus on structural soundness, operational efficiency, and overall productivity, with the aim of identifying gaps that could compromise patient care and staff safety.

According to the Ministry, the decision was taken during a two-day management retreat and aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance supervision and accountability within the health sector. The audit is expected to ensure that facilities comply with approved safety, quality, and performance benchmarks.

In a related development, the Health Minister has also announced the rollout of 24-hour cleaning services in all public hospitals nationwide. This initiative is intended to strengthen infection prevention and control protocols, improve hygiene standards, and enhance the overall patient experience in public healthcare facilities.

The Ministry of Health stated that these interventions demonstrate its commitment to proactive oversight, better facility management, and sustained investment in quality healthcare delivery. Officials believe the measures will contribute to safer, cleaner, and more patient-centered health environments across the country.
