The Government of Ghana has intensified efforts to seek justice following the death of an 18-year-old Ghanaian student, Nana Agyei Ahyia, in Latvia, an incident his family believes was fueled by racial discrimination and persistent bullying.

Nana Agyei, who was studying abroad, died under circumstances that have sparked outrage and deep concern among Ghanaians at home and abroad. While Latvian authorities initially described his death as a suicide, his family strongly rejects this account, insisting that he was subjected to racial abuse and intimidation before losing his life.

According to the family, Nana Agyei had complained about being bullied and discriminated against due to his race, raising serious questions about his safety and well-being prior to his death.

In response to growing public pressure and calls for accountability, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that Latvian authorities have agreed to cooperate with Ghanaian officials. The Latvian Foreign Ministry has formally consented to receive a delegation from Ghana to further examine the circumstances surrounding the case.

The development follows weeks of diplomatic engagement aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and justice for the late student and his grieving family.

Ghanaian authorities say they remain committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that issues of racism, discrimination, and violence against Africans abroad are thoroughly addressed.
