Canadian woman, Ghanaian Man

Police have taken into custody a Canadian woman and her Ghanaian partner following a fire that completely destroyed an apartment at Oyarifa in the Greater Accra Region.

The incident, which occurred on December 23, 2025, involved an apartment occupied by the suspects as tenants. Early police assessments indicate that the fire was not accidental but was allegedly started intentionally, resulting in extensive damage to the property.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the matter is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the Greater Accra Regional Command. Investigators believe the act was carried out without any known provocation.

The Ghanaian suspect, identified as Mohammed Issah, was arrested on the same day the fire occurred by officers from the Ayimensah Abokobi Police. His partner, Jennifer Mae Tomlinson, a Canadian national, reportedly went into hiding after the incident but was later tracked down and arrested on December 25, 2025.

Both suspects are currently being held by the police as investigations continue. Authorities say they will be arraigned before court once preliminary inquiries are concluded.

The police have assured the public that the case will be pursued thoroughly to ensure accountability in line with Ghana’s laws.
