Mahama ends 2025 with 67% Approval as Optimism Grows Ahead of 2026
President John Dramani Mahama ends 2025 with a 67% approval rating reflecting sustained public confidence in his leadership.
President John Dramani Mahama has ended 2025 with a 67 per cent approval rating, reflecting sustained public confidence in his leadership and growing optimism about Ghana’s economic outlook in 2026, according to a new national survey.
The findings come from the December 2025 National Tracking Poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, which assessed public opinion on governance, the economy and national direction across all 16 regions of the country.
The poll shows that two-thirds of respondents believe Ghana is moving in the right direction, a sign that many citizens are satisfied with the general performance of the government as the year draws to a close.
Support for President Mahama remains strongest among supporters of the governing party, while approval is also relatively high among undecided or floating voters. However, backing is significantly lower among supporters of the main opposition.
Economic confidence is driving approval
Economic conditions appear to be a key factor behind the positive ratings. More than half of respondents said their standard of living improved in 2025, compared with the previous year. In addition, a majority expressed satisfaction with the 2026 national budget, citing expectations of better economic management and social support.
Looking ahead, about seven in ten respondents believe their living conditions will improve further in 2026, reinforcing a sense of optimism about the country’s economic trajectory.
Governance and reform issues
On governance, a majority of respondents said the government is making reasonable efforts in the fight against corruption, with many believing the situation has improved compared to previous years.
Public opinion on illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, remains mixed, although a significant number of respondents said the problem has not worsened under the current administration.
The poll also revealed strong public support for constitutional and governance reforms, including the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, changes to presidential term arrangements, and adjustments to campaign timelines.
Shifting political landscape
The survey highlights changing voter dynamics, with young voters forming a dominant share of the electorate. Many respondents indicated a desire for fresh ideas and inclusive leadership, signalling evolving expectations ahead of future elections.
Overall, the findings suggest that President Mahama closes 2025 with solid public backing, driven largely by economic confidence and expectations of continued improvement in the year ahead.
